Enterprise Research Campus Update #66 (Week of November 18, 2024)

As the Enterprise Research Campus (ERC) project continues, we will provide project notifications that outline upcoming and impactful activities, including a map of the area for reference.

Residential/Hotel

  • On Saturday, November 16, crews will be working on exterior panels at the hotel and exterior walls and windows at the mid-rise and high-rise residential buildings. Multiple boom lifts will be used with this activity. Interior work will be underway with hoists operational. 
  • The high-rise building has topped off at level 18.
  • The mid-rise residential building has topped off at their mechanical penthouse at level 9.
  • Windows, exterior sheathing, framing and waterproofing are being installed on the residential buildings.
  • Other smaller concrete operations continue.
  • Roofing activities are underway.
  • MEP work is ongoing.
  • Temporary heaters are being set up.

Laboratory and Office Buildings

  • On Saturday, November 16, a tower crane will be operating to set the curtain wall. Miscellaneous roofing activities will also take place. Spray-on fireproofing will continue on the penthouse. Miscellaneous interior mechanical work, wall framing on various floors, as well as general cleanup will also be underway. Some small deliveries are possible.
  • On Sunday, November 17, a crew beginning at 9 a.m. will be roofing in preparation for tower crane removal the weekend after Thanksgiving. The hoist will be operational. No deliveries will take place.
  • State police-escorted oversize trucks will deliver cooling towers on Wednesday, November 20, Thursday, November 21 and Friday, November 22 at 5 a.m. The tower crane will be used to unload the trucks after 7 a.m.
  • The site’s two tower cranes are operational. They are designed to move or “weathervane” in the wind.
  • Exterior curtain-wall panels are being installed during the week.
  • Smaller concrete operations continue.
  • Both east and west buildings structural steel have topped off.
  • Roofing activities are underway.
  • Spray-on fireproofing continues.
  • MEP work is ongoing.
  • Temporary heaters are being set up.

Greenway

  • Bulk excavation is finishing up with intermodals delivering material for rail transport to the Beacon Yard through the haul road, all inside the site.
  • Drainage structures and pipe installation underway.
  • Concrete activity for the rainwater storage tank will continue.
  • Backfilling will be underway.

Treehouse Conference Center

  • Mass timber activities and door frame installation will take place on Saturday, November 16. A crane will be in operation.
  • Mass timber deliveries and installation on the third floor deck continue with a crane operating during the week.
  • MEP activities and miscellaneous utilities are ongoing.

Waterline Installation on Western Ave.

  • Crews will be finishing work in the next week during the day shift.
  • Concrete sidewalk work near Hague Street will take place next week.
  • Relocation of the fence line back closer to Western Avenue will take place next week with line striping will follow.

Building Mock-Ups

  • Building mockups are on the corner of Hague and Rotterdam Streets.

Eversource Conduit Project

  • Eversource duct bank installation by G. Greene Construction is underway along Western Avenue after hours, typically from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. This public utility work is not under the supervision of ERC.

General

  • The projects work hours are Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. and Saturdays/off hours as permitted by the City of Boston from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Saturday work is scheduled to take place starting at 7 a.m.
  • Hoists (exterior construction elevators) are operating on the residential, hotel and lab buildings.
  • Intermittent use of power trowels for concrete finishing and layout for concrete placement may take place after 6 p.m.
  • Drones will be in use weekly to monitor construction progress on site. Flights are scheduled on Thursdays at 7 a.m. weather permitting.
    • Drones will be operated by licensed pilots in accordance with Harvard University and the City of Boston regulations.
    • Flights are weather dependent and are scheduled one weekday morning alternating weekly.
