Enterprise Research Campus Update #62 (Week of October 21, 2024)

As the Enterprise Research Campus (ERC) project continues, we will provide project notifications that outline upcoming and impactful activities, including a map of the area for reference.

Residential/Hotel

  • On Saturday, October 19, crews will be working on exterior walls and windows at the mid-rise and high-rise residential buildings.
  • The high-rise building has topped off at level 18.
  • The mid-rise residential building has topped off at their mechanical penthouse at level 9.
  • Windows, exterior sheathing, framing and waterproofing are being installed on the residential buildings.
  • Exterior curtain-wall panels are being installed at the hotel. A mobile crane is on site twice a week to unload panels.
  • Other smaller concrete operations continue.
  • Roofing activities are underway.
  • MEP work is ongoing.

Laboratory and Office Buildings

  • On Saturday, October 19, duct work deliveries will take place with an operational tower crane. Interior masonry and other work will also be underway.
  • State police-escorted oversize trucks will deliver air handlers on Monday, October 21 at 5 a.m. The tower crane will be used to unload the trucks after 7 a.m.
  • The site’s two tower cranes are operational. They are designed to move or “weathervane” in the wind.
  • Exterior curtain-wall panels are being installed on the west building.
  • Deck placements are complete in the east building with smaller concrete operations continuing.
  • Both east and west buildings structural steel have topped off.
  • Roofing activities are underway.
  • Spray-on fireproofing continues.
  • MEP work is ongoing.

Greenway

  • Bulk excavation has slowed down.
  • Some backfilling may take place, involving trucks of clean soil entering the site.

Treehouse Conference Center

  • Mass timber installation and interior pluming will take place on Saturday, October 19.
  • Mass timber installation continues throughout the week with a crane operating.
  • MEP activities continue.

Waterline Installation on Western Ave.

  • Sewer tie-in work is taking place at Western and Trotting Avenue on Saturday, October 19.
  • Pedestrians will shift to the Harvard Business School side of the road and cyclists will share the road during these activities.
  • Throughout the week during the day shift, crews will be installing hydrants in front of the hotel on Hague Street and removing the bypass waterline. The shared bicycle and pedestrian path may intermittently be closed.
  • The ERC team worked with the City, Boston Water and Sewer and Harvard and replaced a 12-inch waterline with a larger 16-inch waterline from Hague to Milestone streets on Western Avenue.

Building Mock-Ups

  • Building mockups are on the corner of Hague and Rotterdam Streets.

Eversource Conduit Project

  • Eversource duct bank installation by G. Greene Construction is underway along Western Avenue after hours, typically from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. This public utility work is not under the supervision of ERC.

Milestone Thermals

  • Duct bank installation and manhole work is complete.

General

  • The projects’ work hours are Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. and Saturdays/off hours as permitted by the City of Boston from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Saturday work is scheduled to take place starting at 7 a.m.
  • Hoists (exterior construction elevators) are operating on the residential, hotel and lab buildings.
  • Intermittent use of power trowels for concrete finishing and layout for concrete placement may take place after 6 p.m.
  • Drones will be in use bi-weekly to monitor construction progress on site.
    • Drones will be operated by licensed pilots in accordance with Harvard University and the City of Boston regulations.
    • Flights are weather dependent and are scheduled one weekday morning alternating weekly.
    • A drone flight is scheduled for dusk on Friday, October 18.
